For millions of men, there is no such thing as a smooth, clean shave. They develop Pseudofolliculitis Barbe (PFB) Razor bumps, shaving bumps, etc..., which occur most often in areas where you shave. Curly, wiry hair tends to coil where it grows causing bumps on their faces that itch, burn, and make shaving painful.
They also develop ingrown hairs -- When the hair coils, the end touches the skin and bores a hole into the skin; when this happens, inflammation sets in and creates a "bump." Which begins to itch and then causes the face and neck to look bad. Doctors may advise men suffering with razor bumps to use a depilatory because continued shaving often worsens the condition. Sometimes steroid creams (like hydrocortisone) and antibiotics may be prescribed, but these are not long term solutions.
